Is Elon Musk aiming to share a piece of his staggering wealth — or is he trying to build a new generation of investors in his SpaceX?
Early Monday, the tech mega-billionaire posted on X, “Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America. This will be the first of many.”
For Musk — the richest person in the world — the donation of shares is just a drop in the bucket of his overall wealth: Musk owns around 6.42 billion shares of SpaceX, which represents a 48.4% beneficial stake in the company. Overall, his net worth is currently estimated at $908 billion, according to Bloomberg.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 21.1% of the U.S.’s approximately 341.8 million residents were under 18 as of July 2025, around 72.1 million total. If all 72 million received a SpaceX share, the total giveaway would be worth more than $10.5 billion at the current stock price.
Musk’s granting of SpaceX stock to American kids will be made through Trump Accounts, the tax-deferred investment accounts created for U.S. citizens under the age of 18 that the Treasury Department introduced in July.
President Donald Trump applauded Musk’s announcement. “A BIG THANK YOU to our legendary friend, Elon Musk, for his incredible generosity in giving SpaceX Stock to millions of American children through TRUMP ACCOUNTS!” Trump wrote in a post Monday on his Truth Social account. “This is exactly what was envisioned when we created TRUMP ACCOUNTS — Bringing together the GREAT PRIVATE SECTOR, Elon and so many more, to invest in our children, by far our greatest and most important asset, and give every American Child a piece of the American Dream. Thank you Elon!”
SpaceX is Musk’s company that encompasses rocket manufacturer and space-flight operator, satellite internet service provider, AI firm and owner of X (formerly Twitter) all rolled into one. SpaceX went public in June; it debuted at $150/share, then spiked to as high as $225.64/share in the week after the IPO but has since declined. It currently is trading at under $150/share.
What motivated Musk to make the SpaceX share-giveaway pledge? It seems to have been this: On Sunday, Anthropic announced it would commit at least 5% of its shares to a newly formed Anthropic Public Benefit Fund. The fund will be a “wholly owned limited liability company” that will be able to make large donations to nonprofits or “direct distributions” to specific populations, according to the AI company.
Musk, replying on X to Anthropic, commented: “I recommend giving the shares directly to the public,” adding, “This is what I will be doing.” Several hours later, Musk announced his plan to give one of his SpaceX shares to every American child.

Sooner or later, he’s going to realize how ridiculous this sounds and is going to backtrack on it by coming up with a weak excuse.
Marksays:
1.14% of a persons total net worth is not fairly described as “just a drop in the bucket of his overall wealth” and certainly not in the context of it representing more shares in that company than he himself owns.
Barbara Valenzuelasays:
He is spending trillion on trillions on sending rockets to space while human beings are here on earth dying because they are homeless don’t have enough food to eat living in their cars elderly living on less than 1,000$ a month and seriously ill. While he and our government live like they own the world and want us to bow to them and make them richer. Personally I live with heart issues and 23 heart stents diabetes and numerous health issues and could die any time and in January will be 72 years of age and a firm believer that the government of America when I die will take that money and put it in their own pocket. Even the so called people who are supposed to be helping with housing are asking for 750.00 a month and I personally can’t afford that.

And this is how you create a database of every child in America and monetize the results.
JTsays:
Does he really think this will pump up his loser stock?
